Christopher Logue (1926-2011) was a complete one-off: c, satiric, irrepressibly anarchic and responsible for one of the all-time memorable readings at Aldeburgh, in 1998. All the coruscating wit, pain and relevance of his masterpiece New Numbers will be given fresh life in a rehearsed reading by three of the UK’s most outstanding young actors – Jack LaskeyPaul Ready and Ben Whishaw. They will also recreate Red Bird – Logue’s iconic settings of poems by Pablo Neruda scored in 1959 by Tony Kinsey and Bill Le Sage – with a specially-convened live jazz quintet featuring five top musicians (Maurice Horhut/piano, Pete Beechill/trombone, Joe Sharp/trumpet, Julian Berry/double bass, Andy Trim/drums). Prepare to be blown away.
